Wayfinding Signage Systems in Kuwait

Bilingual wayfinding that moves people through malls, hospitals, campuses and mixed-use developments without a single wrong turn.

Overview

Built for Kuwait & the GCC.

We map visitor journeys, define sign families, design icon and typography systems, and then fabricate and install the complete suite: primary, secondary, tertiary and regulatory.

01

Wayfinding strategy before hardware

Good wayfinding starts with decision points, not sign types. We walk the site, map how visitors actually arrive and where they hesitate, then build a nomenclature and hierarchy — zone names, colour coding, terminology used consistently from the car park entry to the shop door. Only then do we design the sign family: pylons, totems, directories, flag signs, room identification and regulatory plates.

02

Bilingual English and Arabic navigation

In Kuwait a wayfinding system that treats Arabic as a translation layer fails half its audience. We set both scripts as equal partners — matched optical weight, tested legibility at distance, correct right-to-left arrow logic — so the sign reads naturally in either language. This is the discipline behind our work at The Avenues and other major Kuwaiti retail environments.

03

Fabrication, installation and future changes

Directories change as tenants change. We build modular carriers, interchangeable slats and digital directory options so updates take minutes instead of a new sign. Alshaya Advertising Company has fabricated and installed signage across Kuwait since the company's founding, from Kuwait City towers and The Avenues to Salmiya, Hawally, Fahaheel, Jahra and the Shuwaikh industrial belt.

Common questions

Wayfinding Signage Systems — what clients ask.

Do you design the wayfinding as well as build it?

Yes — strategy, nomenclature, sign family design, fabrication and installation are all handled in-house, which keeps the design intent intact through production.

Can existing directories be updated rather than replaced?

Usually. We assess the existing carriers and retrofit modular or digital inserts where the structure allows.
